The song Johnny Tarr by Gaelic Storm off of their CD Special Reserve. WARNING: If you do NOT like Celtic music, don't bother with this song. Thanks. Lyrics: Lemme tell you a little story about a man named Johnny Tarr He was a hard drinking son of a preacher, always at the bar. Lager from the tap or shots of Paddy from the shelf He could open his throttle and throw back a bottle as quick as the devil himself.... Johnny Tarr And the word got around that Johnny Tarr was no pretender. From Claire to here they'd lock up the beer when Jonny went on a bender. Down at Dickey Mack's, the Rising Sun, or at the Swan. He was drinking by seven, by ten to eleven, well all the booze would be gone!.... Johnny Tarr! And even if you saw it yourself, you wouldn't believe it, But I wouldn't trust a person like me, if i were you. Sure, I wasn't there but I swear i have an alibi, I heard it from a man who knows a fella who says it's true! It was nine in the morning, on a cold and rainy night. Johnny walked into the Castle Bar, looking to get tight. He had money in his pocket, he had whiskey in his eye. He said "Get up off your asses and set up the glasses, I'm drinking this place dry!" Now all the serious boozers, they were soon broken hearted when Johnny finished off six, and he was only getting started. Guzzling down the pints, and knokin' em back like candy. He was lookin' alright to be drinkin' all night, then Nora brought out the brandy!.... Johnny Tarr! And even if you saw it yourself, you wouldn't believe it, But I wouldn't trust a person like me, if i were you. Sure, I wasn't there but I swear i have an alibi, I heard it from a man who knows a fella who says it's true! Here we go Sheila Johnny drank the whole damn bottle, had another pint or two, When it made no impression he started a session with Murphy's Millenium Brew. He was waiting for a pint when his face turned green; Jesus, Johnny fell down after only fifteen! You could have heard a pin drop, then the crowd let out a roar, It took five Cork women to lift Johnny off the floor! The doctor looked him over and said "you better call the hearse: But it's not what you're thinkin', it wasn't the Drinkin', this man died of thirst!.... Johnny Tarr! And even if you saw it yourself, you wouldn't believe it. I wouldn't trust a person like me, if i were you Sure, I wasn't there but I swear i have an alibi, I heard it from a man who knows a fella who says it's true! And even if you saw it yourself, you wouldn't believe it. I wouldn't trust a person like me, if i were you. Sure, I wasn't there but I swear i have an alibi. I heard it from a man who knows a fella who says it's true!

Over the past couple of years Gaelic Storm has become known to play a few bars of Johnny Tarr in different styles before launching into the familiar version of the tune. This footage shot at Stamper's Pub in Fairview Park in March of '05 shows the Jazz, Rap, Country, Blues, and "Stairway to Heaven" versions. Sorry for any littel gaps in the footage as my camera at the time was the type that only took 30 second clips, which I had to string together. Still a decent little movie, though!

The first movie shot with our new Canon XL2, Gaelic Knights was done as a project for my homeschool Gaelic class. Young Seumas MacLeod (Stephen Cull) has spent his life seeking Iain Macamhlaigh, the man who killed his father (Rick Cull). One day, he meets a young swordsman (Zack Lawrence) who claims that name. A vicious duel ensues, as well as an homage to The Princess Bride. But even skilled swordsmen can make mistakes. All of the dialogue is in Scots Gaelic. (I know it's not accurately subtitled, but it's close.) Originally, the film was not going to be subtitled, but finally was after realizing that people probably wouldn't be able to tell what was going on otherwise. Production took place in summer of 2005, and the video was completed in February of 2006.

Around 60.000 people speak Scottish Gaelic, most of them in the north of the country. After 300 years of losing speakers, they have managed to stop this lose and with the change of the political atmosphere, they are planning to gain speakers to save the language from its disappearance. We have talked with Janet MacLeod, the head teacher of a Gaelic school and Kenneth Murray, the chief executive of the Bòrd na Gàidhlig. ____________________________________ 60.000 hiztun ditu Eskozia iparraldean hitz egiten den gaelerak. 300 urtez hiztunak galtzen joan arren, giro politikoa aldeko den honetan, hiztunak ez galtzea lortu dute lehen aldiz.
