Here's an illustration of just how much these guys sound like Spoon. You know those Pontiac ads that inexplicably urge you to "Google 'Pontiac'" at the end? This song is the song that plays under those ads. My wife, well familiar with the Robbers' record, was shocked when I pointed that out, because she was so sure the ad used a Spoon song. For the record, Spoon has music in no commercials, or at least no commercials that I've encountered, but maybe it's telling that these guys managed to successfully commodify the sound before Spoon did.

A personal favorite. The Fatalist performed by Robbers on High Street. I was down for the count Down, never out, I was determined But I couldn't catch a break Always treading in the wake Like I was afraid of it So I gave up the fight Let me fall where I might and maybe I'm set to win I quit action, I quit plan I shook that big, invisible hand and welcomed the Fatalist Give yourself into its vision No more struggle, no decisions Beyond your control so give in and let go Enter the Fatalist Oh we try so hard Oh we try, try so hard to get out of this What is behind it? The omniscient it Yes, Fatalist, Fatalist, Fatalist, the Fatalist Give yourself into its vision No more struggle, no decision Beyond your control Welcome the unknown Yes, Fatalist

The Redwalls headlined this show, but my main interest was Robbers on High Street, who we saw play a sparsely attended show at the Annex a couple years ago. At the time they'd just released a better Spoon record than Spoon made that year, and I was pretty excited to see them again, even though their new album is a little tepid. They started with a few from their first album, and they seemed to do well with the bigger crowd and venue.
