At 2:00 Gemma is talking to Simon Middleton and realizes that she is not in love with him. I understand that in some of the clips Gemma appears to be kissing the character I used for Simon Middleton. I tried to edit him out as much as possible but she is kissing Kartik not Simon. The only Simon scene is at 2:00 . This is a fan-made video about Gemma and Kartik's relationship from the Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray. Yes, I know this Kartik isn't Indian and I know some of the things in this video don't happen the way they did in the books, but these clips are the best I could find. STOP ASKING WHY KARTIK ISN'T INDIAN AND LEARN TO READ. Ok, if you haven't read The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray, click the backspace button RIGHT NOW. I'm warning everyone - there WILL BE TSFT spoilers in the video, mentioned in my information and I am sure, discussed in the comments. So spare yourself the pain and aggravation of having the book spoiled for you and please read it BEFORE you come on to watch this video. You have been warned :). OK...Spoiler-Plot Summary Time..... I have gotten dozens of requests to make a Gemma/Kartik video, so I finally gave in. (Actor choices discussed below, if you are offended that the guy isn't Indian, please read that before leaving a comment about it). Anyway, a while ago someone asked me if I could do a GK video and include the Rakshana and a whole bunch of other stuff that I brushed off, not thinking I was going to be able to do it. Well.... I did it. Or at least attempted it. I suppose you will be the judge. You might be a little confused at how the vid starts (even though you all have read TSFT, right? - last chance to back out now if you haven't. Ok, I've given fair warning - I'll stop now...lol). The random men in this video lurking the streets of London in top coats and hats are meant to represent the all-powerful rulers of the Rakshana. And the hawk-nosed elderly gentlemen is their leader, the familiar Viscount Denby (Simon's daddy). Kartik is a member of the Rakshana, though treated shabbily because he is not of their class. It is his duty to watch out for Gemma, but he soon begins to realize that she's not some brat that he has to babysit. She's headstrong and lovely, but rapidly falling deeper into the trap the Rakshana have set for her. Kartik knows that the Denbys - both Simon and his father - are dangerous company for her but he's powerless to stop it. Unless of course, he can offer her another alternative ;) . I did not particularly like the way TSFT ended, so my own ending is a bit ambiguous. You may go with the original mode of thought - that the last scene is merely a fantasy they both share of being together in India. Or you may take some creative license, like me, and believe that it's a Hindu wedding ceremony. All the girls in this video are meant to represent Gemma. You may notice that the girl in the passionate kissing scenes (Claire Danes - whose blonde locks I have conveniently sepia-ed) is different than the lovely red-head in color (Anna Friel). I apologize for any confusion. The reason being was that the actor Billy Crudup (Kartik) had some sweet scenes with his costar that I wanted to include. Don't worry - I kept everything pretty much G-rated but if a passionate kiss offends you, you may feel free to stop halfway though the video ;D But its really not that bad - I promise ;). ***That guy isn't Indian! Kartik should be a lot hotter!!! Ok... I'm only going to say this once. (I don't mean to sound rude so of course, if you have never left comments like this on any of my videos, and have read the creative license blurb, this obviously doesn't apply to you!) I was very hesitant about making a Kartik video for the longest time for this very reason. He's not my favorite character but a lot of my friends kept requesting it so I thought I would give it a go. But a big pet peeve of mine is when people leave comments like the ones mentioned above or feel the need to lecture me on the plot of the book. If I'm making vids for the characters I've obviously read the books! All THREE of them. I'm not trying to sound mean but if you leave me a comment, I feel the need to respond as a courtesy to YOU and when people ask me about things that are clearly mentioned in the video info, it just gets really aggravating. And for the most part, I'M the one that finds people for these videos, so if all the Indian men I find are too young/old/don't fit my vision for my video, I'm obviously not going to use them. I didn't want to use Ben Whishaw this time so I used another guy - this one with longer, dark curly hair at least. No, he's not Indian and you might think he's a little too old or not that attractive, but as I've said a million times, beauty is subjective and no one is going to be satisfied with everything. If you like this video, I'll be thrilled. If you don't, that's alright too. Just don't be rude about it. These take a lot of time and effort to make.
