MANTIS RELIGIOSA: También llamada santateresa,tatadiós,campamocha,mamboretá,cerbatana,usamico,comepiojos o matapiojos,es un insecto de la familia Mantidae,orden Mantodea.Originaria de sur de Europa,la Mantis fue introducida en Norteamérica en 1899 en un barco con plantines. En comparación con otros insectos,su tamaño es mediano,posee un tórax largo y unas antenas delgadas.Tiene unos grandes ojos compuestos en la cabeza la cual puede girar hasta 180º y tres ojos sencillos entre los ojos compuestos.Sus patas anteriores,que mantiene recogidas ante la cabeza en actitud orante,están provistas de fuertes espinas para sujetar las presas de que se alimenta.Es voraz y muy común en lugares cálidos. Las hembras son mayores que los machos,lo que puede provocar problemas cuando se aparean. La Mantis religiosa,la especie más representativa de la familia Mantidae en Europa,puede ser verde o parda con distintos matices.El color del medio en el que habita durante su ultima muda(si se trata por ejemplo de paja seca o hierba verde)determina el color del adulto. El ciclo vital es de un año aproximadamente.Para convertirse en Mantis adultas tienen que realizar el proceso de la muda seis veces,para ello se colocan en suspensión hacia abajo y saliendo por la parte anterior de la anterior cutícula se desprenden de la vieja muda. CAMALEON: Los camaleones son reptiles escamosos,de tamaño pequeño.Hay cerca de ciento sesenta especies de camaleón,la mayor parte de ellas en África al sur del Sáhara.En América se llama a menudo camaleones a lagartos de la familia de los anoles,que no guardan ningún parentesco especial con los verdaderos camaleones. Son famosos por su habilidad de cambiar de color según las circunstancias,por su lengua rápida y alargada,y por sus ojos,que pueden ser movidos independientemente el uno del otro. El nombre "camaleón" significa "león de tierra" y deriva de las palabras griegas chamai(en la tierra,en el suelo) y leon(león). El grupo es bastante antiguo,ya que se conocen fósiles de camaleón procedentes del Paleoceno.La familia está emparentada con la de los agámidos.
