Biography video about the young blues guitarist. more youtube videos: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=zkat2 http://www.rivieraparadise.hu http://www.tamaskatonajr.hu http://www.myspace.com/tommykatonajr BIOGRAPHY Tommy K. Jr. was born on the 15th of August, 1984 in Hungary. He was about 4 when his father, Tamás Katona Sr.(also a guitar player)played a tape of a guitarist who was wearing a white hat and was playing with unbelievable energy... Tommy was constantly asking to see the tape of the "man in the hat" who played the song Look At Little Sister. The man in the hat was Stevie Ray Vaughan. Growing up, Tommy's interest in the guitar became unquenchable. At 7 he could lift his father's guitar so the real playing begun. Tommy spent many years studying the music and technique of the great blues players like Muddy Waters, Freddie, Albert & B.B. King, Jimmy Reed, Johnny Winter, Jimi & SRV, to name only a few. Today, Tommy K. Jr. is a master of the guitar...a true prodigy...thanks to his devotion of those that came before him. Tommy began performing at his father's gigs all over Europe at the age of 10 and played live at the Gastroblues Festival in 1994 in Paks, Hungary to a crowd of 2000 people. In 1995 Tommy played with a true blues vocalist, the legendary Eb Davis. Eb and Tommy became very good friends and play at least one concert every year with Eb and Tommy's father. The late 1990s saw numerous concerts, television appearances and articles in the European press with Tommy and his band,PMD. Tommy played countless memorable shows with PMD. They played several Gastroblues Festivals in Paks and the famous Sziget Fest, all in Hungary. They ventured abroad as well; played numerous shows at the Mojo Club, Zenta (Serbia) - Tommy says: "to me, this is the best blues pub in Middle-Europe" -; the Motorcycle Festival in Kula (Serbia); the Klikk Festival in Slovakia, Blues Festival in Verőce (Croatia) and often in Germany too. In late July 2007, Tommy & his band Full Blast opened for Johnny Winter at the 27th Annual Puisto Blues Fest in Finland. They also were headliners at the August '07 Blues Festival in Pordenone, Italy. In recent years Tommy has had many exciting musical experiences. He met and played with many famous musicians. He had the good fortune to play with Big Bill Morganfield, the son of the legendary Muddy Waters; Tino Gonzales, the guitarist of Earth, Wind and Fire; Ian Siegal, one of the best British blues guitarists. When extraordinary blues harmonica player Sugar Blue was in Hungary a couple of years back Tommy was there and jammed with him. Tommy completed the recording of his first album, "Let Your Fingers Bleed" and it has been released independently, in Europe, as Tommy K. Jr. And Full Blast. The record also features his good friend Tamás Petendi on guitar. Tommy's father, Tamas Sr. also plays guitar on one song. The record was released late September, 2006 with a great debut concert that was held on the 8th of December at the A38 Ship Club to rave reviews. Tommy's CD is now in it's 2nd printing. Tommy's CD is now in it's 2nd print. In September 2006 Tommy paid his first visit to Texas where he attended the 12th Annual Stevie Ray Vaughan Ride And Concert event. While in Texas for several weeks Tommy had the opportunity to perform with many noted Texas Blues artists such as Alan Haynes, Jim Suhler & Monkeybeat, Wes Jeans, Texas Slim, The Tyler Dow Bryant Band, Appa Perry, Joe Hell & The Red Roosters, Cheryl Arena and Carson Alexander at venues that included Deep Ellum Blues in Austin and Nuno's in Austin. Tommy moved to Dallas, Texas on the 3rd October 2007. and he's still there. He joined Voodoo Blue, the premier Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute band in the US. and plays a lot around Texas. Along with Stevie's music they play Tommy's original tunes and more old blues songs as well. Check out the website: www.voodooblue.net
