This video clip will serve as somewhat of a teaser for a DVD that I will release either simultaneously or shortly after the first Periphery album. The DVD will feature me performing the tunes that will be on the first album in their entirety along with professional, close-mic'ed sound and a camera positioned at the feet. I will also perform the tunes at half of the performance tempi and there will be note-for-note transcriptions included. These first two examples are from "Insomnia" (the intro and 1:05-1:21, respectively). The third and fourth examples are from "Juggernaut: Icarus Lives!" (the first chorus and the big 32nd note triplet lick into the outro, respectively). Finally, the fifth and sixth examples are from "The Walk" (2:45-3:39). I would have played that particular section all of the way through but the memory card on my camera isn't very large, heh. T-shirt provided by my friends in The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, check 'em out! For a full note-for-note drum set transcriptions of everything that was played in this video, please PayPal $2.00 to orbinator@hotmail.com. Thanks, everyone!

This video clip documents some new 'Orbinated' parts for the Periphery tune "Insomnia" (http://www.myspace.com/periphery ). The execution isn't as accurate as I'd like it to be, but it's getting there! If the song isn't posted on our MySpace head on over to http://www.soundclick.com/bulb to take an audial gander. Anyway, the first half is a fill-in that begins around 2:15 and launches back into the main riff. I demonstrate this at half tempo (73 BPM) and performance tempo (146 BPM). The second half is the big outro riff. It sounds as if the tune slows down, but it's actually just a metric modulation; the quarter note pulse changes to a half note triplet pulse. I now highlight the quarter notes by 'chicking' the right-side pedal hi-hat cymbal. I also added some ghost notes, changed the fill-ins from 3:42 to 3:52 and revealed the true tempo on the chinese cymbal at the very end. Check out the free transcription! http://www.mydatabus.com/public/travisorbin/e/New_Insomnia_Ideas.JPG The transcription is also a fair indication of what the DVD transcriptions will resemble. I plan on this being my final 'non-close-mic'ed' clip as I loathe the sound quality, heh. Also of interest to some is that I am available for session work. Please check the corresponding blog at http://www.myspace.com/travisorbin for examples of my playing and information pertaining to contacting me. Thank you for your time!

This tune is from the excellent "In My Lifetime, Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life" record, and it features Amil-lion and Big Jaz. The track was produced by Timbaland. It features a choppy and syncopated groove, proving quite the challenge to play along with. I was feeling particularly inspired by this one night (despite achieving only two hours of sleep), and just let the camera roll. What you see is what you get, clams and all. I improvised throughout the entire song, excluding when Big Jaz spits in the third verse. I was always enthralled by the rhythm and dynamics of Big Jaz's rap, so I sat down and transcribed it. You may view that here: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c116/shaftninja/BigJazRap-RhythmTranscription.jpg I lock in with his voice on the double bass (with a bit of embellishment), whilst sustaining a backbeat over the top with the hands. Also, towards the end, I match the vocal progression of Amil-lion with my rack toms. Enjoy! http://www.myspace.com/travisorbin

This clip features some of my favorite grooves that I have composed over the years. Some of these grooves are more difficile to nail than others, but what intensifies the difficulty is how I execute them (leading with the left side of my body). I have been playing an "open stance" setup for about a year now. Open stance was developed by Mike Mangini and utilizes criss-crossing cable hi-hats (and either a double bass drum pedal or two bass drums), enabling he or she to lead with either side of their body. I apologize for the shoddy editing, but that is ULead's fault, not my own! Thank you very much for watching! Enjoy! http://www.myspace.com/travisorbin

This is a cold, technical drumset solo. I am cognizant of the audio/video synchronization complication, but such was not the case with the original file. I hope it does not detract from the performance. Anyway, at the urging of some new bandmates, I took a few days off from my weekly practice schedule and composed and arranged it. The solo is played to a metronome at 95BPM and "close-mic'ed." I decided to close-mic it to hear just how precise (or UNprecise {eek, working on that!}) the notes are. I began improvising at around the 4:13 mark, because I forgot the arrangement (which becomes evident at the 4:26 mark, when you see me look to my right at said arrangement, heh). However, I felt that it was a solid take, so I kept it. Look for some comedic relief at the end! Thank you very much for watching, I fully appreciate it.
