Gustavo Dudamel conducts the world-renowned Simon Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela. In 2007, the Los Angeles Philharmonic appointed Dudamel as the new Musical Director, beginning in 2009. For several years now, Gustavo Dudamel and the young musicians of the Venezuelan youth orchestra Simon Bolívar have been causing a furor on the international music scene. More than anything else, it is they who have earned the Venezuelan orchestra system respect around the world: 30 years ago the conductor, composer and economist Jose Antonio Abreu had the vision of combining social work and classical music. Abreu's goal was to tear down elitist structures in music education and make music a fundamental right of all the country's children. Built in 1906 as a shelter for young wayward or orphaned girls, the Good Shepherd Center Chapel in Seattle provided a new sort of haven for two hundred Artists Den guests on a crisp autumn night. Now a Historic Seattle landmark and performance space, the intimate chapel is framed by high wooden arches, which were lit by candlelight while the latest incarnation of the Swell Season -- led by Academy Award winners, Glen Hansard and backed by Marketa Irglova on piano and two of Hansard's band mates from the Frames on bass and violin -- gave a special performance of their melodic, original songs, several of which were featured in the Fox Searchlight film Once. They were five friends from high school, doo - wopping and harmonizing on the corner of 147th St., & Robey. They would sing down in the subway to get an echo sound. The highlight of The Dells career was when director Robert Townsend wrote the inspiring movie The Five Heartbeats based on the tumultuous lives and career of The Dells. This film produced the hit sound track chartbuster A Heart Is A House For Love which catapulted The Dells into another dimension as superstars.

As one of the world's preeminent photographers, Sally Mann creates artwork that challenges viewers' values and moral attitudes. Described by Time magazine as "America's greatest photographer," she first came to international prominence in 1992 with Immediate Family, a series of complex and enigmatic pictures of her three children. In SALLY MANN: WHAT REMAINS, director Steve Cantor follows the creation of Mann's same-named series on the myriad aspects of death and decay. Never one to compromise, she reflects on her own personal feelings toward mortality as she continues to examine the boundaries of contemporary photography. At her family farm in Virginia, she is surrounded by her husband and now-grown children, and her willingness to reveal her artistic process allows the viewer to gain exclusive entrance to her world. Spanning five years, SALLY MANN: WHAT REMAINS contains unbridled access to the many stages of Mann's work, and is a rare glimpse of an eloquent and brilliant artist.
