Dentro de la filmografía de Andrei Tarkovsky nos encontramos con muchos temas a explorar, pero hay dos que se impone sobre el resto. El primero gira entorno al hombre que trata de sobreponerse a la situación y cambiar el mundo mediante sus actos. Este tema sigue la constante ética de Kant, en la que se establece que por pequeñas o insignificantes que sean las acciones de un hombre, este debe comportarse como si de su actuar pudiese cambiarse el mundo. Esto impregna el cine de Tarkovski en el que los hombres tratan de ir más allá de lo que realmente pueden: Un niño tratará de comportarse como un adulto en La infancia de Iva, Andrei Rublev preferirá hacer un voto de silencio a seguir hablando en un mundo en el que no se le escucha, Chris Kelvin en Solaris tratará de vencer a sus propios deseos y recuerdos, tres hombres en Stalker irán en busca de una habitación que concede cualquier deseo, tanto Goskino en Nostalgia, como Alexander en Sacrificio tratarán de cambiar el mundo mediante un acto de sacrificio. En este caso, Goskino tratará de cruzar la piscina termal del Baño Vignoni, con una Vela encendida. Se trata de un acto de sacrificio total, en el que el objetivo final va mucho más allá de la promesa que le hizo a Domenico. Se trata de una acción purificadora, para el, y para el resto del mundo. If you read about Tarkovsky's films you may have run across a description of the 1983 Cannes Film Festival in which his film "Nostalghia" did not get the Golden Palm as he had hoped. His rather short acceptance speech was mentioned at the time. Here you can see the interesting and very un-Oscar-like appearance on stage of Robert Bresson, Andrei Tarkovsky, and Orson Welles. This clip is from the Dutch 1984 documentary "De weg naar Bresson" by Leo de Boer and Jurriën Rood. It's not available on video, hence the lame quality, but if and when it's available, grab it.
