The work of a genius: an attempt to summarize different elements taken from Shakespeare, from Wagner, and from the russian iconographic tradition. I strongly recommend to watch the full movie. Note: even if my russian is not very good, I noticed that the english translation is flawed (in addition, the subs are sometimes difficult to read). Among the most discussed scenes in the history of cinema, the famous The Odessa Steps sequence from The Battleship Potemkin (1925). The scene is perhaps the best example of Eisenstein's theory on montage, and many films pay homage to the scene, including Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather, Brian De Palma's The Untouchables, and George Lucas's Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. This is another project I had to do for my film theory class. We had to take some ideas from the editing style of Sergei Eisenstein and apply them to a short film. I decided to explore his use of metric as well as intellectual montage. I'm not sure how successful I was in that respect, but I think it looks nice.
