In the 20s & 30s Deep Ellum- an area of downtown Dallas Texas was a happening area... after its heyday, it lay dormant for many years until the late 80s and early 90s when several clubs, businesses, and artists/musicians began calling it home. When I was growing up and in high school during the late 70s, only local "cover" bands could play in Dallas Fort Worth clubs. With the revitalization of Deep Ellum, the area supported artistic creativity on many levels and the music scene really took off...Theater Gallery, Prophet Bar, Trees, DaDa, etc. Enjoy the memories... Also a word of warning: please excuse the poor videotape condition and cheesy transitions- this was of course created over 16 years ago! Phil

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I don't know the original composer of this song. I've read that it was written by a man named Texas Bill Day, but I've also read that Blind Lemon Jefferson wrote it as well. This cover is very loosely based on a performance by Will and Bob Lambert. That performance can be found on YouTube. Cooper generously provided the background vocals for this song, and those vocals are responsible for some of the smiles you see on my face towards the end of the song. I had a good time with this one, but was testing the limits of my vocal range.
