Apr 28, 2008 - Latino comes from latin language, countries with a language that comes from latin are latinos: france, italy, portugal are latinos like the latinoamerican. Is for that cause that exists the words: latino and latinoamerican. Two words, two meanings. ¿Ok?

May 19, 2008 - You're 100% correct. Not all Latin people are Hispanic but all Hispanic individuals are Latin. The French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish are all equally Latin.

Jun 22, 2008 - The French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish are NOT Latinos. It's true that all their languages derive from Latin, but so too does English. Latino is slang for people from Latin America. It does not apply in Europe!

Aug 14, 2008 - English is derive from Germanic to see this one only need look at Old English. It is not derived from Latin.

scotty123123 Says:

Aug 19, 2008 - At least 80%+ of the words in the English dictionary are derived from Latin. English was originally built on an ancient Germanic language. Then, over the course of a thousand years, educated English-speakers introduced Latin-derived words into the language. Nowadays the majority of English words have Latin derivations.

spitty0 Says:

Aug 19, 2008 - Then indeed you have your answer. As I said the English language was DERIVED hence created from Germanic Languages. Therefore the language itself was created before Latin based words were introduced. I hope you understand that. I'm not sure about the 80% in the dictionary part but I studied Latin for 8 years. Latin is a dead language. The words mean the same thing never changing. English is a living language and has changed and will continue to change so long as it is spoken.

spitty0 Says:

Aug 19, 2008 - I really don't want to get into an etymology discussion with you but I will say this. As long as people migrate to different lands and different languages are spoken, it stands to reason that words from other cultures will find its way into the dominant cultures language via the written word or via colloquialisms. This is not some strange occurrence. As more Spanish speakers enter America, over time our version of English will include more of their words.

Nov 3, 2008 - inside the actor's studio's intro is so cheesy. ugh!

gloomyoutlook Says:

Nov 3, 2008 - I dunno about that. In America, there seems to be a very strong antipathy towards your neighbour to the south, and most Americans identify the Spanish language, oddly enough, with Mexico. English is the only official, and thus dominant language and any influence unto English from Spanish will be minimal, as it has little prestige in your country. The reverse, however, will be and indeed already is true. Mexican Spanish contains many more English words than does, say, Castillian Spanish.
