A Bird hit our A319 after take off from Gib (You can hear the vibrations when the engine is hit by the bird at sec 47). Afterwards the engine has been shut down and we have been diverted for an emergency landing with only one running engine in Malaga. Have fun all went well and the crew aboard was very professional.

Oct 2, 2008 - the noise at 30 secconds is the hydraulics i think, i have an a320 video landing at manchester and you can hear the same noise when the gear goes down, but i do agree with you, the strike can be heard clearly. Great video.

Oct 9, 2008 - did the brakes stink because it was an emergency stop or is that normal?

Oct 15, 2008 - That noise would of gave me a heart attack.

Oct 17, 2008 - It's just a bird strike... It's more common than you think. That and lightning strikes. I had to go to Milwaukee for a #2 engine change cuz they took a goose in the engine on approach at 500ft. Seized the engine instantly, landing was a non-event. Boy did that engine stink when we got there... There were pieces of the engine that are supposed to be internal that were hanging out of the bypass valves. Plus all the bird guts.

Oct 21, 2008 - That horrible whining sound is just the power transfer unit providing hydraulic pressure to the failed engine...not really the kind of sound you want to hear when something like that happens though :)

Oct 22, 2008 - Turning right with a left engine failure at approach speed is asking for trouble!!! Your pilot must of spent his childhood on a flight sim!!!!

TheMapleBoy Says:

Oct 23, 2008 - Matt, let's see how well you'd do in a birdstrike

planemadmatt Says:

Oct 23, 2008 - I'll think about a video then!

Oct 31, 2008 - for most of it he is banking left, and who said it was a left engine faliure anyway?

blueb0g Says:

Oct 31, 2008 - yeah, but if you got a double strike at the time the bird hit, the pilot couldn't make it back to the airport. he would have to ditch it on the water... the worst type of crash landing...

dotsalgon Says:

Oct 31, 2008 - Well yes.. I did say "ANYWHERE"!! :p But if someone gets a double strike.. sorry but he would be better not to play the lottery that day!!

dotsalgon Says:

Oct 31, 2008 - Well this is the reason why the attentands do their training... as they say "Safety first! and Calm the passengers!"

Nov 16, 2008 - Highest bird strike was recorded at 34000ft. It was a vulture over Kenya. The bird breeched the flight deck and took the First Officer's head off.

elpiloto69 Says:

Nov 20, 2008 - The highest bird strike reported to date occurred on November 29, 1973, at 37 000 feet. It involved the collision of a commercial jet airliner and a Ruppeli's Griffon Vulture which was flying over Abijan, Ivory Coast. Another reported bird strike occurred at 33 000 feet involving a goose and a Pan Am Boeing 747.
