Aug 27, 2008 - It was indeed. The only event that was good was Ali lighting the torch

Aug 28, 2008 - Financially, only very few places can afford it. Athens hasn't recovered from it yet, and probably won't for a very long time.
AzzurroItalia Says:
Aug 29, 2008 - As Samarach said, Atlanta 96 were the worst games in history
Joseph20062007 Says:
Aug 29, 2008 - You are correct, Samarach were not happy that the time of Atlanta 96 after he knew that the city of Atlanta have been competing with the IOC for advertising and sponsorship dollars.

Aug 30, 2008 - not really. i have been to to turner field and all they did was tore some of the seats out and put up a big screen thing. You are really really wrong.

Aug 30, 2008 - Go back a couple pages and re-read what I wrote . I said they configured parts of it to look like a baseball stadium.

Aug 31, 2008 - The fact is, whoever is bashing Atlanta doesn't really know what they are talking about. I live here, I was there for the whole thing and can tell you the REAL facts, both good and bad. The transporation system was pretty overwhelmed, and I didn't like all of the t-shirt and gift shops down on the main thoroughfares. Of course, there was the bomb, the the organizers decided that the park should be open to all, and the bomber picked an easy target. In hind-sight, sercurity should have been there.
dgoren1 Says:
Aug 31, 2008 - Part 2: Now the good. Security at the venues were air-tight. The venues themselves were world-class. The events all took place with no issues. The local people volunteered and were super-friendly. The city did NOT leave behind ANY debt to its citizens. The opening and closing ceremonies were good (but not as good as China). To base these games on the cauldon is a joke. Some artist came up with it. It's subjective. I wasn't crazy about it, either. These games were good overall, with a few issues.
dgoren1 Says:
Aug 31, 2008 - Part 3: Finally, the London organizers are basing their games largely on Atlanta, not China. They don't have a large, communist government with an open-checkbook. Atlanta made money. I'm GLAD we didn't build more rail lines for a 2-week event. When the crowds left, we'd be left with debt and more than we need. With a few problems, Atlanta pulled it off. Comment if you may, but if you weren't here, you don't know.

Aug 31, 2008 - Sorry for having my own opinion about somthing that i cherished in my childhood. Sydney put me to sleep, most over hyped olympics ever. I really looked forward to them too. And i wouldn't know about the LA games because i was only a year old.

Oct 2, 2008 - Ahh, memories... I remember opening a corn flakes cereal box when I was 3 and getting a free prize inside. It was a silver 1996 Summer Olympic Games coin, and that's when I first heard of the Olympics... I watched it on TV and was amazed at what they're doing! = julius923, you rock for posting this video!

Oct 2, 2008 - That was a camera suspended by 4 cables. They had a camera sytems in which the camera could be moved anywhere all over the stadium about ~30 feet above the ground. The cables were very long and computer controlled.
