Sep 2, 2008 - There is even a "gothic" bellydance style...which is mostly tribal fusion I believe...

Sep 4, 2008 - Hmmm...A little disappointed here...I was expecting more discussion regarding the diverse styles from Arabic, Classic Egyptian, Moroccan, Tunisian, etc. I personally prefer the traditional and ethnic styles, but enjoy the cabaret and American Tribal Fusions.

Sep 6, 2008 - Wow. When I heard the last part from Morocco, I wanted to say amen. Honestly, I'm one for keeping culture, not keeping people out of it, but preserving the culture. From what I've read up on, bellydance was a folk dance from Africa, Middle East and some parts of India. It's apart of their culture, it's theirs. They should have the right to do whatever they want to do with it because it is theirs, it's a part of their culture. I don't hate tribal,it just seems like all it's about is glamour.
misswishstorm Says:
Sep 22, 2008 - yes I agree , However I think Tribal is nice because its a newer style of belly dance and it's differnt. It's nice to see a wide mix of bellydance.

Sep 25, 2008 - No it's not Arabic it's Egyptian and always has been but from that it's also a part of middle eastern and some parts of India. Not America ever time America takes people's culture it turns to hell and... they don't do it right and they think they can tell everybody about an they don't even know. P.S i love the Indian styli

Oct 21, 2008 - that's not related in any way. and I can do tht quite happily here too
frozen10 Says:
Oct 24, 2008 - The point I think is trying to be made is that it's a traditional dance that is a part of the culture and that people should respect that. The are a lot of countries who want people to respect their culture, including dances. So it would help if people learned which countries the dance came from and if they respected the countries.
frozen10 Says:
Oct 24, 2008 - Just as long as people respect the culture and understand where it came from. I still prefer traditional but tribal is okay.

Aug 29, 2008 - Look at all the ego involved arguing here! What Morrocco said was perfect. movements and steps we collectively refer to as "belly dance" come from all over the mediteranean, N. Africa, and middle east. Hollywood influenced costume/style. you think Egypt came up with rhinestones, bellybuttons and arabesques? Egyptian is wonderful but doesnt have a monopoly on the dance. Anyone from anywhere can learn. It predates countries. So there. Lets not make people thing we are uneducated elitist snobs, ok?
