Edited for YouTube: From the 1973 original movie production, Yvonne Elliman sings 'I Dont Know How To Love Him' Note:This scene is shot in low light and candles. It's supposed to be dark. ~Ric~ Lyrics: ...Close your eyes close your eyes and forget all about us tonight. MARY MAGDALENE: I don't know how to love him. What to do, how to move him. I've been changed, yes really changed. In these past few days, when I've seen myself, I seem like someone else. I don't know how to take this. I don't see why he moves me. He's a man. He's just a man. And I've had so many men before, In very many ways, He's just one more. Should I bring him down? Should I scream and shout? Should I speak of love, Let my feelings out? I never thought I'd come to this. What's it all about? Don't you think it's rather funny, I should be in this position. I'm the one who's always been So calm, so cool, no lover's fool, Running every show. He scares me so. I never thought I'd come to this. What's it all about? Yet, if he said he loved me, I'd be lost. I'd be frightened. I couldn't cope, just couldn't cope. I'd turn my head. I'd back away. I wouldn't want to know. He scares me so. I want him so. I love him so.

Nov 10, 2008 - Something wrong about involving Jesus and love? Are you serious?

tuttt99 Says:

Nov 11, 2008 - The song is obvious. Mary Magdalene, having been a prostitute, had so many men who only wanted her physically. When encountering Jesus who loves here as a person for perhaps the first time in her life, she is overwhelmed. One of the best moments in the show IMO.

Nov 12, 2008 - i meant like jesus lOVING someone in that way

redxpinaii Says:

Nov 12, 2008 - No they weren't. This song is basically her saying that all the men she's met in her life only wanted her physically. Now she meets Jesus who loves her for her. but not love her as in a bf way. love her as in how God loves us. Which is why she's feeling overwhelmed and confused about him. She doesn't know how to love him meaning..the only type of love she knows is physical, she's never known Gods unconditional love, let alone know how to return it. :]but yeah, just wanted to let you know

VictoriaSobocki Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Mary Magdalene HAS NEVER BEEN a prostitute - on the contrary she was a princess of Galilee in her own right. It has now been 60 years that the catholic church under pope Paul VI confessed that they had been doing her wrong for over 1000 years (because only in medieval times Mary Magdalene was villainized as prostitute) and still people see her as one. It's about high time that it is aknowledged that a highranking WOMAN has been one of Jesus' followers!!!

lordaumerle Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Bad misconceptions and historical problems here. 1) Mary Magdalene was identified as the same person as the sinful woman (implied to be a prostitute) of Luke 7 and Mary of Bethany by the early church; by people such as Hippolytus and Gregory the Great. Many modern Christians dispute this identification, but they don't have a mysterious monopoly on the matter; nor is the topic a medieval invention.

lordaumerle Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - (cont) 2) The early church especially saw Mary M as a senior follower of Jesus; and it was in this light they cast her sinfulness. Jesus took amongst his followers ignorant fisherman, tax collectors, Zealots, prostitutes and those who persecuted his followers. Mary's alleged former profession is seen as vital to her role as a senior disciple. Her womanhood is not "done down" by it. Christ's grace is such that even great sinners are redeemed and might be His followers.

Nov 20, 2008 - I don't know why they stopped comments on the '73 JCS version of 'Everythings Alright', so I'll put my two cents here. Elliman is true to the original album. It's comforting to hear it as I remember it at my music class at Boston Latin over 40 years ago. I can't thank Mr. Peterson enough for playing that album for us. The black guy, however, who plays Judas in 'Everythings Alright' had to put his own spin and style into the tune. I think he spoiled the song.
