Thanks! :) *I highly recommend this game for your PS2 collection* From the PlayStation2 game Xenosaga I: Der Wille zur Macht http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/xenosaga/index.html No other single game to date is as story-driven as Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht, a rather conventional RPG at its core, but one with an exhaustively detailed and occasionally long-winded narrative. Playing through Xenosaga involves watching an inspired anime sci-fi miniseries unfold, as the game packs in literally hours upon hours of noninteractive 3D cutscenes. You do more watching than playing sometime, but scenes can be skipped. Also, the emphasis on story means that Xenosaga isn't always the most riveting gameplay experience. However, the story is what will prove to be the main attraction for many fans of the genre--especially for fans of Xenogears, a daring 1998 RPG published by Square that, like Xenosaga, is long, complex, and heavily focused on storytelling. Both games' stories touch on some decidedly sensitive subjects, most notably by making numerous allusions to various religious faiths--and in this case, all in the context of a sweeping, melodramatic space opera. Not everyone will enjoy Xenosaga, but serious fans of RPGs or anime almost certainly will. Regardless, Xenosaga is by all means an impressive and genuine effort, one that legitimately deserves both praise and attention. Published by Namco rather than Square but designed by the same developers as Xenogears, Xenosaga isn't directly related to Square's cult classic, but the similarities between these games will be unmistakable to those who remember Xenogears. Xenosaga is a science-fiction-themed game set thousands of years in the future, when humankind is being threatened by a mysterious, ethereal alien menace called the gnosis. Shion Uzuki is a young scientist heading up the development of a female android equipped to deal with these bizarre monstrosities. To say much more about the story would be to give away some of its surprises, but suffice it to say that some surprising events bring Shion and her android creation into league with some other unusual characters who, coincidentally or not, are headed to the same destination. Along the way, they will face the wrath of the gnosis, a number of shadowy political factions, a deranged and masochistic villain, and more in a story that's rife with intrigue. All this unfolds in cutscenes that sometimes go on for more than 30 minutes at a time, so thankfully you can pause them. Religious references come into play in Episode I, filled with monsters, giant robots, and science-fiction conventions. The game's use of things like images of crucifixes, the Hebrew alphabet, the number 666, and direct references to the Bible and cabala seem as though they're in there for shock value at points. Some may be offended, while others may find it unusual, along with the game's subtitle, which translates as "The Will to Power" and is a reference to the work of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. Others will probably think it's cool. Definitely unusual material to see in a role-playing game. Refreshing and new from the usual Final Fantasy doldrums of late. Apr 6, 2008 - He called KOS MOS an android, but technically she's a gynoid. Androids are robots modeled to appear male, gynoids, female.

sebasdiabloo Says:

Apr 26, 2008 - one of the worst reviews i've ever seen.did this guy even play xenosaga?everyone who is considering buying any of the 3 episodes DO NOT take into account what this guy said.xenosaga is an awesome game.maybe 1 got too many cutscenes but you get so involved that you dont notice it.voice acting was great in 1 and 3(2 was ok for chaos,jr. and ziggy)and the battle sistem is anything but simple,it's brilliant.the tech and skills system was excellent the ether was ok but could have been better like in3

sebasdiabloo Says:

Apr 26, 2008 - another proof this guy hasnt played xenosaga is that he completely left outside one of the most important characters(or at least more impotant than ziggy and momo)that is chaos.he says that there aren't many battles in this game, well of course there aren`t if u r a sissy that avoids them(its the same as saying that FF8 didnt have many battles after activating enc-none).

sixteen97 Says:

May 18, 2008 - I love Xenosaga and I didn't have an issue with anything he said. Everything he said about the game is absolutely true, just because a reviewer doesn't go into a frenzy and says "OMFG DIS IZ DA BEST GAME EVARRRRRRRR!!!!11!!1 ANY1 WHO DUN LIEK DIS GAEM IS DUM" doesn't mean he didn't like it.

Dajuro Says:

May 20, 2008 - Greg is exaggerating when he says that you have to "sit and watch, nearly as often as you play". If you do everything in the game, there's about 8x more gameplay than cutscenes.

xlwaiyiplx Says:

Jun 14, 2008 - AHHHHHHHHH GREG!!! ITS Greg!!! im buying this game for sure now!

Sephiroth1994 Says:

Jun 19, 2008 - wheres the fucking score

Mugenmush Says:

Jun 22, 2008 - Technically, everybody already knows what an android is while all of about five people are familiar the term gynoid. Technically, tomatoes are fruit too but I rarely contradict others when they call it a vegetable - some people might think I was pretentious.

DanRSL Says:

Jun 23, 2008 - oh yea, of course. But I meant that more as a "fun fact", rather than an "I'm smarter than you". It's also funny to imagine KOS MOS with a robotic penis.

Ajax1O1 Says:

Jul 12, 2008 - Xenogears is, to date, my #1 game. It is my absolute favorite. Now, I know that Xenosaga isn't exactly a sequel to Xenogears, but, just judging from personal experiences, if I loved Xenogears both in the way it tells its MASSIVE story and in the way the game world flows in general, will there be enough for me to like about Xenosaga that will make the adventure of tracking down a copy worth it?

dontyouwannayeah Says:

Jul 22, 2008 - 100%, undeniably, without a question, yes! I've played Xenogears myself, and even have a PSX emulator with the game downloaded on my laptop. But Xenosaga brings it to a completely different level. It raises so many bars at once that it's almost overwhelming at first. so much so that beginning the gameplay is almost tedious at first with all the detail that they put into EVERYTHING. but give it 5 hours of gameplay and you'll be hooked forever. it is to date, the second best RPG continued...

dontyouwannayeah Says:

Jul 22, 2008 - that i've ever played (second only to Shin Megami Tensei, highly recommended BTW). one of the few faults of it though, is also one of it's best qualities. it's the fact that it's so good, that also makes it so rare. after 2 years since starting the trilogy i still havn't been able to finish it due to a lack of the third game, which is the rarest. the second was considered the letdown of the series so if you find the first you can find the second, good luck on the third lol. hope this helped. ^_^

Theycallmetomu Says:

Aug 23, 2008 - chaos is really important, but only in retrospect. He says and does virtually nothing in the first game, and I don't think you're ever forced to play as him.

sebasdiabloo Says:

Sep 1, 2008 - of course he does.he appears out of thin air when u first meet him(even KOS-MOS with her sophisticated sensors cant find out how he did that)and he talks not revealing anything about himself and gives moral support to all characters.and in the first game they begin to show the connection between KOS-MOS and chaos.true you are not forced to use him but thats because everyone wants to use him.YAY chaos^^i love his lunar seal.

HalfMoonBlade Says:

Sep 2, 2008 - This guy is a liar! Shion is NOT likable!

lor108avi Says:

Sep 5, 2008 - the game loosks good. it seem WAY to religious and preachy though

UncleShal Says:

Sep 13, 2008 - I think the Xenosaga trilogy is one of the great's game trilogys ever. My second favorite game trilogy is .hack//gu. I think Xenosaga is one of the best games ever made. Its that underdog type of game. U have 2 actually have patience to like this game cause of the cutscene. I do think the story was kind of weird & creepy with the religious stuff but @ the sametime I don't think it was attacking the christianity beliefs. This is coming from a very devoted christian (me). continued....

UncleShal Says:

Sep 13, 2008 - I think Xenosaga is a great rpg & the story only gets better as U play through all 3. I kind wish it would have expanded 2 the PS3 but @ sametime I'm happy it end the way it did. I can also understand way the didn't expand 2 the PS3 cause @ the time they would have lost alot of fans 2 the series. Where as now if they would have done it wouldn't be as bad cause more people are starting 2 get PS3's. All in all I really recomend this series 2 people that like sci-fi stuff & 2 people who like rpg's.

sebasdiabloo Says:

Sep 25, 2008 - dont mess with shion or KOS-MOS's going to kick ur butt!^^

sebasdiabloo Says:

Sep 25, 2008 - mixes religion, philosophy, space, science and most important GEARS!!

lor108avi Says:

Sep 25, 2008 - i like everything in that sentance except for religion. i dont get how you combine religion with the values of an athiest philosipher. the last game is called: Xenogears-god is dead.

sebasdiabloo Says:

Sep 28, 2008 - im atheist too.yet religion as fiction for making a video game is great.and religion should stay that was, as fiction!

lor108avi Says:

Sep 29, 2008 - well, im agnostic and i guess you do bring up a good point. ill go check it out.

mithrilfox87 Says:

Oct 27, 2008 - To be honest, Shion is a pretty one-dimensional character whose growth throughout the series is minimal. As a main character, she fails to draw on your emotions, but succeeds in making you feel that the game is too cutesy or overly dramatic at times. Shion's lackluster performance in battles doesn't help to make her any more special, either. Overall, none of the individual characters seemed all that realistic or interesting, one of the biggest faults of the series; story w/o char. development.

mithrilfox87 Says:

Oct 27, 2008 - Just one thing I want to say: music? again: music, anyone? Seriously, you spent most of the game running around in silence hearing the hum of onboard fan and computer units. Second: the gears are virtually useless, and boss battles are impossible unless you figure out the "secret" to winning. Third: some REALLY cheesy voice acting coupled with really lame lines seriously hurt the storyline. It's work to play through it. Is it worth it? Maybe, but it's definitely work to get through it.
