Feb 13, 2008 - How can you say that? She's awesome. Let's see you play a song that fast without getting your arm tired, screwing up a single note, or accidentally hitting another violin string. You must be drunk or high.
upkilt Says:
Feb 13, 2008 - Fast? Hahahaha. That's really funny. How about you check YouTube a little longer for someone that's playing fast. It has nothing to do with speed. She stinks. Search for Liz Carroll. She's an Irish fiddle genius. You're either a really bad fiddler or a total idiot.
Jorgeoporco Says:
Feb 13, 2008 - Okay, apparently I made the mistake of assuming you knew the first thing about violin playing when I made that comment. I am well aware that as far as note speed goes, there are much, MUCH faster songs out there. It's about the slurs. This song uses only one note per bow stroke. Which means that she has to move her arm up and down for each note. Take it from someone who actually knows what he's talking about, it is tiring. Sharon's a goddess.
upkilt Says:
Feb 13, 2008 - Her interpretation of the tune uses one bow stroke. She's using classical violin bowing for a fiddle tune which always sounds stupid. Fiddling has different bow patterns than classical technique. This is what mostly distinguishes violin from fiddle styles despite being the same instrument.. I play several instruments and have been playing Irish and Celtic music for over a decade. I actively gig and have recorded. I don't think you really have any idea what good music is.
Jorgeoporco Says:
Feb 13, 2008 - Okay, no matter how long you've played: Saying that classical violin bowing means using one note per stroke = wrong Just like saying that fiddle bowing means using many notes per stroke. The problem with people who get really good at instruments is that some of them forget what makes a song good. They become fans of the videos where the players only show off on how fast they can play and the techniques they can use instead of giving you a nice song.
Jorgeoporco Says:
Feb 13, 2008 - What makes a player good is not his ability to play a thousand notes per second or using billions of techniques. It's his ability to play a melody that's beautiful to listen to. And this is something Sharon excels at.
upkilt Says:
Feb 13, 2008 - I didn't say either of those things about bowing. I pointed out her poor interpretation. You have to be able to play to interpret. Also, this is not a "song", it's a "tune". Proof once again you have no knowledge of the music at hand. The problem with newbies is that they think they know how to play cuz mommy says so, when in fact they suck! Come back when the training wheels come off.
Jorgeoporco Says:
Feb 13, 2008 - Well, you did say that she was using one note per bow stroke and therefore using classical bowing. Aw, and lay off the "knowing this name makes me better than you" technicalities. Tunes, jigs, reels, whatever you wanna call them, at the end of the day, they're all songs. You should also note that not once did I say I was a good player. I just said that unlike you, I know how to appreciate music for how enjoyable the melody is, and not for how big a show-off the player is.
upkilt Says:
Feb 13, 2008 - Actually, they were two seperate ideas on bowing, but you're an idiot. It's OK. You'll never really get it. Go have your bottle and go to bed.
Jorgeoporco Says:
Feb 14, 2008 - I usually follow the "arguing on the Internet is stupid" philosophy, and just to have come this far is lower than I normally go, so I'll just let you have the last words if you decide to post anything after this. I don't really see the point in trying to have a reasonable discussion with someone who for some reason feels the need to treat me as a child and brag that he's a gifted musician to make his point. The only thing I'm worried about is becoming a smug jerk like you in a decade.
upkilt Says:
Feb 14, 2008 - You wouldn't have the balls for it, sister. I love last words.

Jun 9, 2008 - I believe jorgeoporco likes to show off that he is a good musician and a no-nonsense philosophist. let him be. people like him know nothing but to show off. maybe he's just goddamn jealous of the way sharon corr plays the violin and the way people love her and her sibs, so goddamn jealous that he poses like some magnificent music guru. pity him, he's got no fans nor accolades. he can easily fit in someone else's ass.
