Nov 20, 2008 - Santana's good but to compare him to Hendrix is like comparing a junior high school band compared to the New York Philharmonic. Santana never played anything in his entire life to compare to what Jimi did in the first 30 seconds of this song. I'm not bashing Santana but anyone with ears knows that Jimi is way out of everyone's league.

Nov 21, 2008 - LOL! Is that why ALL English music that isn't choral is based on AMERICAN Music? Look, the genius that he was/is is thoroughly American, through and through, like Coltrane, who was not understood by his fellow Americans, like Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan, who were not understood and more. Understand, when you hear Hendrix you hear America. England couldn't and hasn't produced anything like Hendrix, ask Jeff Beck or Clapton or Led. England's entire music is about TRYING TO BE AMERICAN.
cavaleer Says:
Nov 21, 2008 - Everything from Led Zeppelin to Loose Ends to Seal to Sade to Radiohead to Lisa Stansfield to Josh Stone, is based on trying to sound American. And y'all do a bloody good job of it!! I absolutely LOVE Sade and Zeppelin and Radiohead. It's great music. But when you hear a wild genius like Hendrix you only hear America. In this solo you hear everything that took place on the guitar before him and you hear everything, every genre, that has taken place since him. That's the towering American genius.
cavaleer Says:
Nov 21, 2008 - Rod Temperton (sp) is probably the best example of Brits expressing themselves beautifully through American genres and traditions. His compositions for Heatwave and Michael Jackson sounded so American I was floored when I found out he was a Brit. It's brilliant music. But he had clearly studied Jazz as well as European traditions, as well as Stevie Wonder et al. Y'all have been diggin' our style for the entire 20th century, esp. during the Jazz age, from Duke thru Miles and the Blues of course.

Nov 21, 2008 - It's called being a perfectionist.

Nov 22, 2008 - vai might have gotten the idea of tender surrender from here. and was the crowd screaming "more" at the end? it seemed they needed a break lol after 8 minutes of endless solos.

Nov 22, 2008 - At 5:55 there is a girl behind or to the side of Jimi. Imagine that feeling after that rift what was going through her mind, her soul if you can't you are totally blind to music.

Nov 22, 2008 - This has got to be one of the most amazing moments in music
cavaleer Says:
Nov 20, 2008 - It's disgusting and travesty of music that the labels have ruined or denied artist after artist, in their idiotic, thoughtless desire to hustle a buck. The bottom line is they don't know WTF they're doing, so they just follow, or throw anything at the wall and hope it sticks. It's sickening but I have several ideas about how to change it, once and for all.
