Nov 16, 2008 - This show barely survived its inspiration for one season. To stretch it out for 5, or whatever, was really trying the patience of anybody of even reasonable intellect. If you want to create a show with fantastical elements then fine, that gives you whimsy. Don't, then, insult our intelligence by trying to deal with weightier issues like death. When you have no code of credibility you are left with a completely undisciplined show - Ling is not just a judge, she's also l lawyer, but wait a

Nov 16, 2008 - minute, she also runs her own dating agency... and so it goes on. And why is is Christmas 52 weeks of the year in Boston, according to the show? I was there in November and never saw any lights. The suspension of disbelief required for this programme is inhuman. A whole show devoted to people who can see unicorns, because their hearts are pure......puhlease! Ally McBeal was not a programme about lawyers, it was a review show for singers and writers with no sense of self-censure.

Nov 16, 2008 - What's the problem with You? I was in my teens when it came out, and even then I understood what it was about: life. Just normal people trying to live their lives. Unicorns and dancing babies are real to some people, and I think it's great that mental issues were shown in a large scale. And I guess this show was the first one not to point fingers to the strange. For no matter some dress "funny", act "funny" etc they really might just be great people, not freaks to be chased with sticks.
LoaferII Says:
Nov 16, 2008 - Oh, for God's sake, get a grip. The show has nothing to with real life, it's no more an accurate representation of life than a Walt Disney cartoon. Trying to defend the show from your standpoint is preposterous. "Unicorns and dancing babies are real to some people"! Are you serious? Read that statement back then promptly beat yourself unconscious with a heavy item. "Mental issues were shown on a grand scale"! Eh.........WHAT? The show was a piece of fluff. You are bestowing an imaginary
LoaferII Says:
Nov 16, 2008 - substance on it that it doesn't deserve. How very 'Ally McBeal' of you.
heli20380 Says:
Nov 17, 2008 - That's what I meant:People w/ mental problems may hallucinate about juggling beds or whatever. What I'm trying to say is that even normal people may have some issues and in this series they were dealt safe, not pointing fingers.True,in Ally McBeal it was all cute and fluffy and never got to the stage of being admitted to a mental institution. And what's wrong in enjoying childish TV?I'm glad these series are made, makes me believe I'm an optimist after all when reading such narrow minded comments :)
LoaferII Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - You can't possibly be serious about this show's handling of mental issues? Not really serious? Again, you're giving it a significance it doesn't deserve. It's not a seminal show, by any means. If you want a show that deals with issues in an adult and relevant fashion then watch 'Six Feet Under', or 'The Sopranos', and shows of that ilk. I've got nothing against AB's fluff, but I do object to its smug and woefully exaggerated opinion of its own importance. It had delusions of grandeur
LoaferII Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - that made it simply unwatchable. I suggest you aim those accusations of parochialism inwards.
QuieroGuerra Says:
Nov 18, 2008 - The first couple of seasons were OK. After that it went downhill pretty fast.
TheClique17 Says:
Nov 20, 2008 - You sound like a bit of an asshole to me, to be honest. It sounds like you're forcing your opinions about the show on other people. But people have different tastes. Are you looking for an argument by bad mouthing the show through comments on a tribute video? 'Cause it seems that way.
LoaferII Says:
Nov 21, 2008 - Not at all, Shitbox. I'm merely enjoying an engaging and energetic debate with somebody whose views differ from mine. That's the raison d'etre for all public forums. What an incredibly dull world it would be if we all shared the same viewpoint......or were as dull and colourless as you. Asswipe.
LoaferII Says:
Nov 21, 2008 - It choked on its own over inflated sense of self importance. The producers, writers and even the actors laboured under the misapprehension that the concept could support something other than mindless fantasy and disposable fluff.
QuieroGuerra Says:
Nov 21, 2008 - An accurate assessment.

Nov 23, 2008 - One of the best tributes on here. Thanks so much I'd forgotten LoL

Nov 28, 2008 - Amazing! Who would have thought Ally McBeal would have stirred up so much genius chatter! The comments herein are sooo great! Heated too~ ooo! A unicorn told me to look up Ally McBeal. It certainly sounded familliar but I was unsure what it meant. Now I know. Genius chatter~ unicorn food.
