Jun 18, 2008 - Colosooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Jour0n Says:

Jun 22, 2008 - i don't exactly what your time is, but I think Brecker has the crown, and he took it in his grave But Rollins is also a a great musician

jazzmaster01 Says:

Jun 23, 2008 - I agree with Jour0n, Brecker was definitely King. Rollins might have been the first to experiment with it, but Brecker nailed it.

smartinjazz8906 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - If we're talking solely about technical ability, then I would agree with you that Brecker took insane harmonic ideas and branched them out to the limits on saxophone and on EWI, however Sonny is an original jazz giant that will never be overruled. And in my opinion, Chris Potter got his hands on that 'crown' before Brecker passed. If you haven't already, check out a bootleg copy of Potter playing All The Things You Are for a master class unaccompanied......you'll see what I mean ;)

Jul 7, 2008 - In response to Jour0n's comment.....

Jul 12, 2008 - Haha. Cool

Jul 13, 2008 - I am sorry but in a way I have to agree with this fellow - I love Newk's old stuff, I mean the 50's, but when I look at him in this video, I just see a man who throws himself from side to side and his musical ideas are not a single bit "fresher" than the ones that he had in the past. And I think he definitely lost that fire he had. I know he is old, but I just don't like the way he keeps on going just because he is the famous Sonny Rollins. I like him in the past. I dislike him in the present.

Aug 3, 2008 - thats completly true man. awsome. he lost the strengh.

me007963 Says:

Aug 4, 2008 - i agree, he has lost his chops and his ideas feel tired. he seems ired in this video. it is sad. BUT, recently he has started to pull himself back. he has started practising properly and working on his chops and he is turning over a new leaf. i hope that works.

alexitin Says:

Aug 6, 2008 - he sounded great tonight in New York

PLeonTube Says:

Aug 14, 2008 - You have probably forgotten what Brecker answered when he was asked how do he felt being king of sax: "Go ask Jerry Bergonzi". As for Sonny, I personally can't compare him with younger people. If you take playing jazz seriously on sax, you surely have some Sonny in your chops. So you don't own 100% credit...

PLeonTube Says:

Aug 14, 2008 - He plays some Lester Young stuff :) Check 1:10

stubs13 Says:

Aug 28, 2008 - You got to love Sonny's improvisation

Sep 13, 2008 - Saw sonny live thrice. love Sonny

beethovenbix Says:

Sep 20, 2008 - "I think the reason he 'Keeps on Going' is because He's a Musician, it's in his fuckin blood! You dont give up just cos' your past 30 or whatever! However, I do agree with you that his 'fire has diminished', but with age - that is what happens and I also love his early years. However, True musicians will carry on doing what they love doing best. I admire performers who carryon despite the odds against them. The great Segovia and 90 something year old Les Paul are examples of longgevity!"

p0ezi Says:

Sep 21, 2008 - 0:30 - 0:33 Very nice little riff!

TampaRed Says:

Oct 1, 2008 - If Newk wants to keep playing and people want to keep seeing him, all the power to him. If he's got the flare, light that fire. You don't have to see him or buy any of the new albums.

nubiantgirl Says:

Oct 4, 2008 - Thanks for posting this vid. I myself am a Tenor Sax jazz musician. To me Sonny Rollins never gets old. Ofcourse you might not have the same breathe as you did when you were 30, but Miles Davis also showed signs of not playing as strong. That happens with age. But to be honest, personaly I do not feel that Sonny has lost a step. To me he is still the reigning king of tenors. KEEP BLOWING SUNNY...BECUASE AS JAZZ CATS, THAT IS ALL WE HAVE.

nubiantgirl Says:

Oct 4, 2008 - Tenor Madness is actualy one of my favorite songs. This is the song that turned me on to Sonny Rollins.

Saxyman14 Says:

Oct 17, 2008 - It's always the easy things that people are impressed by. As a musician, that bothers me, yet I like it at the same time, haha.

AnaisConce Says:

Oct 18, 2008 - I would like to see you pull off anything that Sonny plays and then call it easy. You are no saxophone player.

Saxyman14 Says:

Oct 18, 2008 - Sorry, that was in response to the comment left by "p0ezi" about the "Nice little riff" at 0:30. I didn't claim everything Sonny plays is easy, just that one little thing. As far as the me not being a sax player assumption though, you have no evidence that I am not.

akSoTnetsiL Says:

Oct 20, 2008 - my hairs goes up..great great vid

dprcpinheiro Says:

Oct 23, 2008 - Simplesmente Fantástico!!!

Nov 28, 2008 - Thougth I might add my two bits...with all these somewhat disturbing comments... comparisons.....best this ...best that....lost fire....Brecker.. etc. I suppose all somehow valid. I just cant comprehend someone diminishing a man that has contributed so much ...recording for what... 70 years? I hear an enormous musical vocabulary, vast riches, a wondrous warmth and beauty, pure pleasure "in the now". Aging, good days, not so good days (gigs) whatever thats life... thats Jazz. Brecker my ass
