Oct 14, 2008 - The Lakers were originally in Detroit, but didnt get their name there as many think they did since there are many lakers, or lake transport/cargo ships, a ship with a very unique design. They were limited to the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence waterway. Serch up a picture of one. The Lakers got their name while in Minnesota, the Land O' Lakes, the State of 10,000 lakes.

Oct 25, 2008 - ur actually wron about the knicks, short for knick knacks??? are u serious the knickerbockers name comes from the dutch settlers that migrated to the new york in the 1600's and the style of pants they wore known as knickerbockers...everything else was pretty much correct..
SELACARTEL Says:
Oct 25, 2008 - i'm pretty familiar with the LAKERS history and nowhere ihave i heard anything of them being in Detroit????u must of made that up urself, the LAKERS got their name from the the lakes in Minneapolis..
HazeGreyAndUnderway Says:
Oct 25, 2008 - ok. wrong about Knicks. But you cant be a fan if you dont know that the Lakers franchise started in Detroit. I never said that they got their name from Detroit, I said EXACTLY what you said, that they got their name from MN. They were the Detroit Gems before the Lakers, way back in the '40s. I didnt make it up...
