Last but by no means least comes this final number from the B's 1978 Downtown Cafe performance. I hope everyone has enjoyed these delightful glimpses into the formative work of a great American band. Thank you B-52's for all the great music.

Oct 3, 2008 - This is when the B52s were actually an innovative, quirky and edgy rock band. To think they did the Flintstones later...

Oct 3, 2008 - Hippy Hippy Shake! It looks like they got the hippies to boogie and shake. A year later it's short hair and skinny ties!

Oct 9, 2008 - Hard to believe this was 30 years ago...Carter was President, Cold War etc. seems like only a couple years ago

Oct 10, 2008 - why don't you dance with me? I'm not no limberger! Oh, the shirt Kate has on is the one she wore for the cover of their first album! Great sound, timeless and fun!

Oct 10, 2008 - If you didn't live the 70's and 80's, you missed a huuuuge party. Best decades ever! Not sure how I survived it...

Nov 3, 2008 - OH MY GOD! I can't believe I'm seeing this again. I actually was there that night and partied with them afterward. Talk about a flashback. This was The absolute infancy of "American" New Wave as we knew it; raw and crude; not polished yet as it would be in a few years. We were also competing with the Discos at this time.We would win in a couple of years but it was to be short lived.Nevertheless I think this was the best time to be involved in music. Thanks so much for all the"Downtown Cafe" posts.

Nov 6, 2008 - Were you in the front?
littletimone Says:
Nov 7, 2008 - No, There was a group of about 8 of us and we are just barely visable here on the very left side of the stage, but as I recall I was kind of all over the place mingling(sniiiiiffffff) with people that night. God that is so weird I was only 18 then. Now I'm fixing to turn 49. I haven't really had time to go through and check 52 girls or devil in my car to scope out myself or anyone else I was with but I will.

Nov 8, 2008 - Ok so the audience is in their 50s. Funny I don't know too many people that age that are that cool. Where are they??? Isn't that strange? This band was so ahead of their time that it took 10 years for most people to recognize them. Even more ironic is its this age range that tends to be hung up on dam Lynard Skynard and Janice. Thank God for the progressive early group, the truly innovative post war hippies of the world. They are the ones that gave this awesome band their start. WHere are they?

Nov 22, 2008 - I'm still here. In the late 70's when i first heard the 52's i just loved them, they were just so exciting and differen't. I've recently rediscovered them thanks to you tube and they still have the same effect, their music is timeless and will go on for generations. You know some of the older bands now sound dated and boring-but not the b52's, long may they continue.

Nov 22, 2008 - Thats just the coolest thing. You are right and I think thats what I love about them. They are so unique that if you had never heard of them and listened to a song for the first time, you would never know it was 20 years old. You are lucky to have enjoyed them in their debut.

Nov 30, 2008 - Well, not yet 50, but early 40s and saw 52s all around ATL in early 1980s - but were playing Fox and Agora Ballroom by then. Atlanta music scene was hot back in the day -- very creative and mix of all people. Lots moved to NYC in 1986/1987 though.
