Aug 15, 2008 - everything depends of the past and history of the country china has got a lot of history and spain too, USA and australia are quite new countries and greece is the mother of olympics.. for me the best are the chineese and barcelona, but we've got the best song sang by mercury and caballe!.....

Aug 19, 2008 - I think Athens really delivered with their ceremony, considering the amount of amazing history they had, its a sahme they didnt get '96 (the a centenary of the modern games). I loved sydney's aswell, maybe even more. The US better not get it, they have had crap olympics time and time again... Madrid, Rio, Paris all far better choices. Anyone agree?

aylyese Says:

Aug 19, 2008 - Well, I guess my research is a little more thorough than yours - see all you needed to do was click on my name and look, there is the little Australian Flag in my profile. Now, as for the all copying Athens? The 1896 opening ceremony consisted of a speech, it being declared open, and a band and choir doing the Olympic hymn. Thats is. No show of nations, no show at all, not even an olympic flame. So before telling me to check my research, do a little of your own.

skatulli Says:

Aug 19, 2008 - U just won't stop right? I don't need to do research to see if u r Australian or Chinese, cause I don't care. I don't have time for this...which I guess u do ;-) I made the original comment about what I believe and I will stick by it, whether u agree w it or not. Why don't u go and check it again to see what u are talking about and stop replying with all this. I don't think anyone needs u to tell them things they already know!!!

skatulli Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - I totally agree with u. Athens is my all time best and then it's Sydney.I hope it can stay in a European country after London. Good comment btw!

theantijabba Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - Id put my money on paris hey, theyve bid for the past 5 or something... and im sure they would have a brilliant ceremony, but madrid i think is the dark horse... i can see it being party time in spain in 2016. Hopefully i get the chance to go to them, 2012 too

skatulli Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - You're right..even though both France and Spain have had it in the past and I'd like to see a different country getting it this time. Well, I am sure whoever gets it will have a great opening ceremony. Can u imagine the technology in 2016????

aleglatt Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - estoy de acuerdo carlitos

aylyese Says:

Aug 20, 2008 - LOL! you don't have the time yet you keep replying. Unfortunately for you you seem to have run out of answers seeing how you clearly didn't even bother to look up the 1896 opening ceremony before placing your foot in your mouth. Feel free to stand by the assertion that China copies Athens. I shall stand by mine that Athens copied Sydney - which is yet to be bested. Have a nice day.

skatulli Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - I keep replying cause obviously I've pissed u off and it's fun for me!!! I don't need to run and look up every ceremony and then reply...so to make a point!!! As for the 1896 ceremony, I have seen it many times and I am very proud to be GREEK and having given the lights of civilization to ppl like u...so u can show afterwards the jellyfish and say it was the best ceremony ever...go and check it now and reply..don't forget ;-)

aylyese Says:

Aug 24, 2008 - LMAO! You are delusional. Perhaps you need to go back and see where this discussion started. You know - where you implied that China copied the drummers and flying people off of Athens. I was just advising you that the Opening ceremony before Athens had these elements too. You are the one who took offence to being corrected. Clearly you should be looking up the other ceremonies before commenting because you look like an ill informed groupie otherwise. ;-)

GreekBluez Says:

Aug 25, 2008 - Greece's ceremonies were outstanding......PERIOD! And China did not deliver....:(

grekpojken Says:

Aug 25, 2008 - THIS WAS AMAZING,, I LOVE WHAT ATHENS PRESENTED.. SIMPLY AMAZING,, very artistic! GOOD JOB!

skatulli Says:

Aug 26, 2008 - TOTALLY AGREE!!! SO others can see and finally stop the bullshit :)

MsCobaltBlue Says:

Aug 27, 2008 - Whether you like it or not, Athens 2004 inspired and set the bar high having truly become the epitome of the Olympic Games from which even the Chinese BORROWED many artistic elements i.e. in BOTH(!!) of THEIR ceremonies. Greece can indeed be delighted because ... imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. For the record, bigger does ... not mean better!

K80blogfan Says:

Aug 28, 2008 - Wow....there all great...but nah BEIJING IS THE BEST TO DATE>.....i wanted to see a brief of all olympics...and im going with beijing .....there the best games EVER>>>.plus athens all there venues are destryed

krlossssss Says:

Aug 29, 2008 - china copied the fireworks style of athens it was almost the sameeeeeeee same style same places... what can I say... China failed in that aspect, cause they were the ones who invented the fireworks how they dont create a new form of presenting them or maybe just more cerative parts to throw them up cause were the same places as athens

hAppiiBB Says:

Aug 30, 2008 - lol drums r def. part of China's culture.... look at Lion Dances (which has been part of China's tradition since.... AGES)!! You cannot say that China copied Athens idea with the drums, and as for the fireworks, the Birdsnest has a totally different style to Athens, so how can the fireworks be in the same place? All the OCs have had their own unique styles in trying to portray their own culture, and there will be similar aspects but of different styles which are all amazing!

HTownCountryFan Says:

Sep 1, 2008 - Add Beijing on here. That whole ceremony left me with my jaw open!

aylyese Says:

Sep 4, 2008 - Oooh, So Sydney can be delighted too - seeing how Athens copied the Sydney 2000 artistic elements. =) Awesome. Thanks Cobalt. Deny it all you like, but they did. Greece couldn't even get their stadiums finished in time. The swimming arena was meant to be "inside". Yeah, the rest of the world is *so* jealous of Athens lack of organisation, borrowed Opening Ceremony elements, and big cigar looking cauldron. Terribly, terribly jealous. Get over yourselves already.

PASSYNICK Says:

panadem Says:

Sep 20, 2008 - Whether you like it or not Athens opening ceremony was by far the best! Sydney did not differ from the typical Atlantas's opening, except for the lighting, that was truly amazing! Beijing, was spectacular, Barcelona artistic. But Athens was authentic, "unforgetable, dream", poetic, the way it should be...Athens has been the one and only opening ceremony that "hymned" the human race, the diversity of humanity. Greeks wanted a modest, "doric" celebration, exactly as an athlete's way of life...

aylyese Says:

Sep 30, 2008 - Panadem: "Whether you like it or not Athens opening ceremony was by far the best!" In YOUR opinion. The problem on here is not jealousy. Its the typical egotistical tweenagers who can't handle the fact that other people think differently to them. Athens bored the shit out of me. So "whether you like it or not" I found Athens to be the longest, most painful 4 hours of my life - and that takes some monumental effort considering I have been in labour 5 times. Time to learn to deal with life, hun.

panadem Says:

Oct 1, 2008 - Aylyese, i still believe that Athens 2004 have been the best olympic games so far. Based on a human scale, Athens 2004 Games illuminated the humanitarian principles, celebrating the human being itself. Athens 2004 focused on the human brain and its achievements. It was not just a show of greek history; it was a hymn to the man. Athens opening ceremony renewed the aesthetics of the opening ceremonies; Of course this is a subjective thesis. Beijing as well as Sydney were spectacular, too.

aylyese Says:

Oct 2, 2008 - Woot! Someone with perspective at last. Thank you. All it takes is someone to accept that this is entirely subjective. Of course, this whole discussion started because someone insisted Beijing 08 borrowed from Athens 04 the exact same elements that were also in Sydney 00 - all of which had reason in their own cultures to have those elements. I was really just trying to point out to this person how silly their claim was. Having a preference is fine. Letting it blind you to fact is immature.
