Wedding cake designer Shinmin Li started baking wedding cakes after training in fine art. It's not that jarring of a change, if you think about it. Li owns I Dream of Cake in San Francisco, and spends her time obsessing over cake consistency, design details, and whether her clients will eat the finished product. ======================CHOW.com========================= Didn't think food could draw such enthusiasm? Jan 27, 2012 - When was she a snob? It's nice to see a person who loves what they do and takes it very importantly. That's why her cakes ARE superior! If she said nobody can do what she does I'd say she's a snob, but she didn't. She's just talented, stop being jealous, lol.

Lillskank Says:
May 3, 2012 - She should work more with her recipes. If you can't make a vegan cake with a great texture, your doing it all wrong.
kikomiko1 Says:
May 4, 2012 - Can I order a few of these cakes even if I don't plan on getting married anytime soon (or ever)?
smwillia Says:
Jul 18, 2012 - I like her essential "I know it looks beautiful, EAT IT" stance. Don't break her heart by not cutting into her beautiful cake.
Yaling Chan Says:
Aug 5, 2012 - i don't think it's the eating texture. she said it's difficult to shape.
austinmurphyhill11 Says:
Aug 6, 2012 - "ill wake up at night and thing to my self: *snap* i got to get back to the kitchen!"
Lillskank Says:
Aug 9, 2012 - Yes, but she also said that it came out too dense. Eating texture or otherwise, I have loads of great vegan recipes that comes out fluffy and is easily baked in shaped silicone molds. I have no problem making tiers or cut into shapes. I just think that she hasn't done her homework. She should really hook up with Erin McKenna, the founder of BabyCakes NYC. Her bakery is world famous for it's vegan and allergy adapted recipes. We vegans are tired of excuses, baking is just eatable chemistry.
Yaling Chan Says:
Aug 9, 2012 - Edible* I've never tried to shape vegan cake, but now that you mention it, I've never found any of the recipes friends have given me seem too dense either. The cookies on the other hand...but I digress. I also don't know about the "excuses." If you're concerned about it, why don't you send a perfected recipe to the business? It takes a lot of work to perfect batter, style, and design wedding cakes. Would you prefer it if she said, "We tried it and gave up because it's not worth the effort?"
Lillskank Says:
Aug 10, 2012 - Thank you for correcting my English, since it's my second language and all. I hope you also keep doing this to immigrants and people with a dyslexia, I know they, like me, will appreciate the lecture. If you ha a bad experience with vegan cookies I can tip you off to Isa Chandra Moskowitz's and Terry Hope Romero's "Vegan Cookies - Invade your cookie jar". You are bound to find something. When it comes to giving them a recipe I rather see vegans go with there business to a vegan bakery.
Yaling Chan Says:
Aug 10, 2012 - I didn't give you a lecture. I corrected one word. I was born in China and you shouldn't take offense when you're learning, especially since I haven't been hostile at all to you. With the vegan cookies, I do enjoy the texture and it's what my friends enjoy, so I'll keep trucking those, not that I gave any indication that I didn't like them in the first place. Well then why are you upset that they haven't gone through the effort? Is it because they're spot-lighted here and BabyCakes wasn't?
Lillskank Says:
Aug 10, 2012 - I live with a friend who suffers from dyslexia. He can't be taught or learned but people always try. It hurts to see how he struggles and I learnt to stop correcting people when it comes to spelling unless they ask me. So I might overreact but I think it's elitist and unempathic. I misunderstood your cookie comment but the book is still a great tip. When it comes to veganism, it's a huge issue. A lot of people have allergies and there is very few reasons for using animal products.
