Oct 3, 2008 - Amazing vibes solo. I'm a percussionist, and am amazed at how Kerry Minear can do that while also being able to play like 30 other instruments equally as well. Some of those hits require incredible accuracy. Kerry's got it.

Oct 7, 2008 - I saw these guys open up for Rick Wakeman at the Spectrum. A group of people after the giants show left. I thought wow, these guys must be pretty good if they are leaving with the man Wakeman comin out. I went out the next day and bought Free Hand and have now seen the Giant at least a dozen times. What a show by marvelous musicians.

Oct 8, 2008 - What in this world can make those genltemen to pick up their instruments and start to play together again? Is it possible to demand a comeback? What is the odds looks like? Any one who can hypnotize them? :-/

Oct 15, 2008 - Well he didn't destroy the song...it's still here, just fine. Madlib sampled the song for one of his own. In doing this he has shown Gentle Giant to many people who would have never heard them before...like me. Now what's so wrong with that?
tantaluringen Says:
Oct 15, 2008 - I am one of very many conservative GG-fans. For me it feels like this: "why not rebuild the pyramids of Egypt to make Mac Donalds or something..?! otherwise there is not so many people who will hear about them" This is why I feel it is just like a sacrilege to cut GG song in pieces, sampled or not.
dredyouall2 Says:
Oct 15, 2008 - I dont think your analagy of rebuilding the pyramids of Egypt to promote Mac Donalds is relevent all to Madlibs sampling. I think that sampling a song meants that the artism must have a lot of respect and admiration for the origional muscisions to choose thier work to sample. If I were an artist I'd much rather my work was admired enough that someone from a different genre of music took it and made something new and interesting out of it than for people listen, go "thats nice" and move on.
tantaluringen Says:
Oct 15, 2008 - This is what I feel about it! Do I "feel wrong" ...??! Who can decide that? This is what I feel. Distroyed GG-songs = sacrilege. Never mind.. who cares about what is holy music for some of us? Does the pope care if Jesus was gay? ...hallo?
dredyouall2 Says:
Oct 15, 2008 - Dislike useing a childish analogy but think of music a Lego bricks. Gentle Giant have built something beautiful out of these bricks. I'm not disputing that. However Madlib has decided to rearrange this bricks into something different. In my opinion its no less beautiful, just different. Its natural to feel cautious of change, human nature. But if you transcend this, and view both pieces of music for what they are instead of trying to compare them. You will see the true beauty of both.

Oct 15, 2008 - I can understand what You mean. And maby I can agree if it was not about GG songs. maby I am pathetic, but I feel that GGs music aved my life. I lived in a camp long time ago. My only friend was a taperecorder and GG music. This is one of the reasons why I feel that GG music is holy. Those nice men who was members of GG created special music. This is magic for me. If I get headake this music can help me. No need to paracetamol as long as I can listen at GG music

Oct 18, 2008 - I'm sorry to have been so much of a bore But in my own funny way I find I learn much more. I realise what you think from your eyes, But in your own funny way I find I learn much more. My ways are strange They'll never change They stay, strange ways I'm sorry to have been so close from the start, But for all that I cared we could be miles apart. questo è

Oct 19, 2008 - Well if you rebuilt the pyramids into a McDonalds, then the pyramids would no longer exist. In this case, both the original Gentle Giant songs and the samples in other songs exist. So there's more Shulmans to spread around.
tantaluringen Says:
Oct 19, 2008 - I think like this, if all of this GG-members like their music to be spread all around, they know how to do that them selves. No need to sample! Better you can put luke warm whip cream in your cold beer. Same result if You like to distroy something. ;-)

Oct 19, 2008 - Unfortunately Gentle Giant never came to Australia so I never got to see them live, but they have been one of my favourite bands for over 30 years. Playing the Fool Live.... I wore out two copies of that vinyl album..... One of the best live albums ever recorded. If I was asked which albums I would take to a deserted island, that would be top of the list. Amazing stuff... it's still an inspiration today. I'm a muso (The Cube - thecubeonline on YouTube) and they still inspire me. Great stuff....
biggersworld Says:
Oct 19, 2008 - I forgot to ask, does anyone have any ideas on how to get the footage we are seeing here. Very limited in Australia. I have several albums on CD (Playing The Fool etc) but nothing available on DVD. Would love to get something...Cheers

Oct 21, 2008 - The vibe solo is absolutly amazing... and he's doing it inbetween playing cello and keyboards and recorder and singing :-) Kerry was the main composer of GG and a great performer!
wigginsdesign Says:
Oct 25, 2008 - Watching thse guys switch instruments live was like MAGIC. Gary would switch to flute, Derek to Bass, Ray to Violin & Trumpet, John also played vibes while Kerry would play it and cello then all of them would play recorder. It was unbeleivable
