Nov 8, 2008 - The girls here are ballet dancers. They NEED to be that skinny, or that is what the ballet school tells them anyway. If they don't keep a lean build they will most probably get expelled from the school.

Nov 8, 2008 - My ballet instructor's from the Bolshoi Ballet and she always talks about how there's no pressure now, how she was treated back at the Ballet, etc. It's still the same in Russia now, maybe not for all the dancers, but for most of them.

Also, to gain sufficient turnout/flexibility before your hip rotator muscles and flexibility are set. Plus, a dancer's career on stage is very short, ideally you should start your career in ballet around 18 while you're young and fit as you can probably only continue until your late 30s.
