Oct 30, 2008 - You are accusing me of being naive. I have checked all of my facts. You should do the same. You are claiming that the US is on the gold standard. This is high school economics, i am not here to educate you on the very fundamentals of what you are arguing with me about. - The USD is not backed by gold. - The US was key in getting Sadamn into power. - Bin laden has thanked us in the past for helping Afghanistan. Please fact check your information before posting or accusing me of being naive.
adog262 Says:
Oct 30, 2008 - Of course. That's what I meant by "they don't literally get their gold." :) But pardon my tied tongue, we haven't been able to get gold from dollars sine the Great Depression. There was just this huge overhaul over the federal currency and such. For that reason, we just have FDR-imprinted dimes now. :)
R0YB0T Says:
Oct 30, 2008 - We do not have a gold standard. We have what is called fiat currency. "Today, like the currency of most nations, the dollar is fiat money, unbacked by any physical asset. A holder of a federal reserve note has no right to demand an asset such as gold or silver from the government in exchange for a note. Instead, the currency is backed by future claims to wealth of American taxpayers and other income sources of the Treasury." Our money is "unbacked by any physical asset."

Oct 30, 2008 - You might be right about that. Im a foreign policy hawk, Im not too keen with the economy
tubub Says:
Oct 30, 2008 - You are being naive. -Saddam was not supported by the US during his rise -Osama Bin Laden never liked te US. Whether he thanked us for our contribution in Jihad is a different matter, he's always hated the West especially because of our support for our israel and later our troops in saudia arabia -Your claim of OPEC switching to Euro's in 2000 is completely false since the Euro was not introduced as a cash currency until 2002. Most nations are on the fiat system...Go look this up
tubub Says:
Oct 30, 2008 - We supported the Mujihadeen yes. OSAMA BIN LADEN DID NOT ACCEPT OUR SUPPORT! The Mujihadeen was a vast network of different groups all brought together to fight the Soviet occupation. Osama was rich and didnt need American money and weapons as well as not wanting the West to be seen as a significant hand in the war. Again, Im not saying he didnt "thank" us. You can thank someone and still hate them. He hated the West, which in his eyes included the Soviet Union.
R0YB0T Says:
Oct 31, 2008 - Look things up before you post them. Check your own facts before you hit "Post Comment". - Saddam was supported by the US since 1959. the US was key to him gaining power in Iraq. - Osama Bin Laden was very grateful for the help that the US gave Afghanistan in the 80's, his fatwa against the US was not made until 1996. - Google Iraq Euro, there is a CNN link titled: "U.N. to let Iraq sell oil for euros, not dollars" dating October 30, 2000. The euro was released: 1 January 1999.
R0YB0T Says:
Oct 31, 2008 - Google "euro currency" click the 1st link which is the European Commission. You keep engaging me on this, but you won't do even a single drop of research. I am not here to teach the basics of the US or European economy, and other information that should be well known by American adults. I am trying not to be insulting, but you are calling me "naive" in many of your posts, when you do not have a simple understanding of our own monetary system. Yet you still choose to argue with me.
R0YB0T Says:
Oct 31, 2008 - Couldn't you have even googled: "iraq euro"? I am going by facts. Sources like CNN, the European Commission etc. I think you are just going by your own personal assumptions and opinions. I am not. I have barely given my own personal opinion, just the facts.

Oct 31, 2008 - lol you know what, fine then... -How did the US support Saddam, as in with what and on what conditions? Why did we support Saddam? Please, I'm so interested to know why the US supported some random sunni muslim in Iraq while we were pre-occupied with communism in Cenral America and SouthEast Asia. -Osama Bin Laden has always hated the West, thanking us doesn't mean he doesn't hate us -The Euro was not a cash currency until 2002. We would not go into a war based solely on that, lol wow
tubub Says:
Oct 31, 2008 - I choose to argue with you because your wrong. This is not complex information, its the basics. I know the US still has a gold reserve, whether that is still how our currency is backed is a different issue. You claim this but then are trying to say we supported Saddam in the 50s, thats just not true at all and seem to be saying Osama didn't hate the West prior to '96.
tubub Says:
Oct 31, 2008 - Never said that didn't happen. But your claim that that was a main reason in the pretext to invade a country is overstretching it tremendously. I doubt that was even a factor. I don't go off assumptions, the US had little if any interest in the Persian Gulf during the 50s. Send me your sources for this in a url, you can msg url's.

Nov 1, 2008 - You are more correct than you can imagine. I watched this movie (all 141 minutes) ONLY because it showed up on my home screen. When I wanted to go back and re-watch parts of it, I did a YouTube search and refined it by "number of views". The results that showed up were a page of fluzzy videos. Maybe we have the government that we deserve as a people.... and, it keeps me up at night.

Oct 30, 2008 - The US helped train and arm Afghanistan during the cold war. Bin laden thanked us for that. "Larry King: [on Osama bin Laden] What were the circumstances under which you met him? Prince Bandar bin Sultan: This is ironic. In the mid-80's, if you remember, we and the United States were supporting the Mujhadeen to liberate Afghanistan from the Soviets. He came to thank me for my efforts to bring the Americans, our friends, to help us against the atheists, in other words the Communists."
