Oct 29, 2008 - mgsfan15 - honestly that SUV didn't do well indeed......
mgsfan15 Says:
Oct 29, 2008 - Well, the passenger in the Civic would most likely be dead. It didn't look to bad for the SUV.
indigoblue555 Says:
Oct 30, 2008 - to mgsfan15 -as a matter of fact there has been (in Italy)a sort of law project to limit the SUV and off road number on the roads,as they are dangerous for regular cars when colliding. But it's pure fancy...too many interests backing up the SUV market. On my op. instead of limiting SUV trading, they should increase the stock cars safety using carbon fibre cages and side bars for instance. I'd would give up leather interiors and other expensive options to balance increasing costs. Greetz.

Oct 30, 2008 - Carbon Fibre is a great feature; it is both extremely strong and light weight. Using it as an integral part of a car would improve performance and safety. But Carbon Fibre isn't an option that can be offset by deleting some leather trim packages. A small amount of structural-strength carbon fibre manufacturing can cost upward of $100,000 for just the A and B Pillars. Steel and effective geometric designs is far more cost-effective than carbon fibre technology.
indigoblue555 Says:
Oct 30, 2008 - to tyau234 - ...yes I understand. Referring to the little Merc.Benz Smart citycar (equipped with a composite-made safety cage) I guess that,an extended use of these new techn, could induce lower costs, being applied to thousands and thousands of units. At least I hope so.
tyau1234 Says:
Oct 30, 2008 - Hi indigoblue555, the smart's tridon tridion safety cell structure constitutes its high safety rating. The Smart is made from steel. It's safety comes from the cleverly engineered geometric frame structure. It has no trace of carbon fibre or glass/plastic composite materials. The Smart does not have a cage, either. Fibre composite products are often used to make things as radiator support, like on my Infiniti G35, aka Skyline V35. It is rarely used as an integral part of a vehicle.
indigoblue555 Says:
Oct 30, 2008 - to tyau123 HI! Yes,I had to distinguish between cell and cage... I thought that the tridion was in composite material, not steel made. Happy to see that the tridion cell is doing well in crash tests eventhough steel has been used instead of composite mat.-
