Aug 7, 2007 - Hey bud. Glad someone got some use from my vids. I found out about pulling the tip out to shut it down too lol. The flame seems to get pulled through the needle that way. Great idea with the needle btw. i have a few vet needles for use with animals that i bet will work great. I know the torch isnt what we were working towards but its good to take a break and play around with this gas. Keep it up. take care.

Aug 7, 2007 - Soooo, aren't you going to get current "leak by" under the bottom edge of the plates? Have you used your volt meter to check the electrolyte in various places for voltage? It is pretty interesting.
ZeroFossilFuel Says:
Aug 7, 2007 - Pretty sure I was already getting leak-by underneath through the numerous rows of holes drilled in the bottom of the plate cavity. The additional grooves for closer plates cut right across where the holes were necessitating the removal of the bottom.

Aug 7, 2007 - The gasmeter is brilliant !

Aug 7, 2007 - And tonight it worked flawlessly. The cell not so flawlessly. Sid was right. MUCH more leak-by current across the bottom. I also had gas coming off both sides of the positive electrodes and in the middle around the negative. Despite this, overall efficiency was still about the same, offset by the closer plate spacing. It's full steam ahead now on the next generation cell. Can't wait to show it off!

Aug 7, 2007 - You were right, Sid. See my reply to Hoekf.

Aug 8, 2007 - Hey everyone. Found Potassium Hydroxide KOH locally today! Home Depot in the plumbing section for drain openers. It is in liquid form but I'll take what I can get. It's Pequa brand Heavy Duty Drain Opener. 32oz white plastic bottle with red lettering about $6. Hope it works.

Aug 8, 2007 - ZFF, Just found a granular drain cleaner that contains KOH called Thrift for about the same cost. Keep up the good work!

Aug 11, 2007 - Hey ZFF, Thanks so much for the measuring device. Soooo sweet! I made one. So little restriction! I am only making 500ml every 2min so far but I will get there. BTW, I tried it with a small hose like you have but got better results with 3/8" hose. Greasy001 (It ain't easy being Greasy)

Aug 11, 2007 - I get a lot of compliments on that little gadget. Thanks.
ZeroFossilFuel Says:
Aug 11, 2007 - BTW, 500mL in 2 minutes might not be that bad. What is your wattage input for that volume? i.e. Amps and Volts at the terminals?
GkillerDogg Says:
Aug 13, 2007 - get a backfire regulator, from a welding shop

Aug 13, 2007 - ZFF, 4 SS plates 3"x6", -+-+ 10amps@10-12vdc gives me 500ml/2min I added more baking soda and got it up to 12vdc@25amps gives me 500ml/1min, 24vdc@50amps gives me 500ml/30sec. Wires get too HOT! Greasy001 (It ain't easy being Greasy)
