Aug 20, 2008 - I haer ya , but not just great--happy to be playing. The scene changed in the late 80's early 90's. The fans were differant. Not all of them, but a lot of the so called deadheads were selfish rich kids. They brought that selfishness to the shows. Instead of being there for the group, the music, the scene, they were there for their own reasons. It wasnt all about that and there were good shows in that era however I Never saw Jerry and the rest of the band so happy to be onstage.

Aug 21, 2008 - It's not Barlow comparing himself to God. The song is about a character. The song is about this guy who's proclaiming this stuff about himself--the Estiamted Prophet, so it's in the voice of that character, not Barlow himself. Does that make sense?

bluegrassbarry Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - well ok. that would make it easier to play this song.

Finallybenunderstood Says:

Aug 25, 2008 - regardless, this is a GREAT song...Naw, don't worry about me, I will get by, love.

Aug 27, 2008 - bob was on his shit, and that just made it easer for jerry

bluegrassbarry Says:

Aug 28, 2008 - really, it's a funny story how they wrote this. maybe someone can confirm what i remember.... bob wier and his lyricist john barlow stayed inside a hotel room for two or three days together writing this song. by the end of it they got to some degree of fighting and smashing furniture or otherwise yelling and throwing shit around. and there was a bottle of Jim Beam I believe. I think this story is in the book by Rock Scully titled, Living with the Dead.

Sep 13, 2008 - I like the performance of this song from the 5/08/1977 show @ Cornell Universary in N.Y. Jerry's solo had more feeling. This video is just as good tho.

Oct 15, 2008 - ANY video from this year should be considered a privilage for all of us to see...period!

Altoonasuks Says:

Oct 16, 2008 - I disagree, each member of the band brings their own feel and timing to the band. Donna, is remarkable on Playin',GDTRFB,France,Must of been ...,FOTM,etc. sorry i also have many friends who feels she de energized the band, but I believe she adds that back-up vocal @presise times. However, she seems out of time with the music on some songs......this Estimated is tolerable Donna(if that makes sense)

Altoonasuks Says:

Oct 16, 2008 - WHY? She adds a female back-up vocal which the Dead welcomed(sort of),to get Keith, Donna was included, and certainly made her presence felt in the 70's........the Dead are 4ever changing......so what, you have hear Donna Jean's background singing for like 8 years, I'm cool with it! Don't see myself @ any TRIXTERS shows however.

staaarboy Says:

Oct 18, 2008 - Seriously, if you can't hear Keith's Polymoog harmonies you better check your ears...

Oct 26, 2008 - Saw em at KC royals stadium in '78 and the whole show was great, but this song was the pinnacle, when that sound reverberated around the walls and seats it sent chills up my spine, never heard or felt anything like it since.

VegaLione Says:

Nov 6, 2008 - agreed, being spun out when he hits that one note you can feel the energy send chills up your spine... what a great feeling being overcome by energy going to the beat of the dead....
