Nov 14, 2008 - I once saw an interview with Martina where she said she once got a letter from an abused wife who never found the courage to leave her husband, until she heard this song.

FilmPoems Says:

Nov 15, 2008 - Martina cares deeply about helping abused women and children, that is why some of her songs (Independence Day, Concrete Angel) deal with it.

Nov 17, 2008 - This is a really sad song but it has a good message. Abuse is wrong and needs to end before something bad happens.

allycat0216 Says:

Nov 17, 2008 - Well she seemed alright by dawns early light but she seemed a little worried to me. She tried to pretend he wasn't drinkin' again but daddy left the proof on her cheek. I was only eight years old that summer, but I always seemed to be in the way, so I took myself down to the fair in town on Independence Day. Well, word gets around in a small, small town. They said he was a dangerous man. But mama was proud and she stood her ground she knew she was on the losin' end.
