Music: Republika - Nie pytaj o Polskę [ Republic- Don't Ask About Poland ] Polski Dywizjon 302 i 303 Fighter ( Polish ) Squadrons 302 and 303 Polish pilots fought in the Battle of Britain, where the Polish 303 Fighter Squadron achieved the highest number of kills of any Allied squadron. From the very beginning of the war, the Royal Air Force (RAF) had welcomed foreign pilots to supplement the dwindling pool of British pilots. On 11 June 1940, the Polish Government in Exile signed an agreement with the British Government to form a Polish Army and Polish Air Force in the United Kingdom. The first two (of an eventual ten) Polish fighter squadrons went into action in August 1940. Four Polish squadrons eventually took part in the Battle of Britain (300 and 301 Bomber Squadrons; 302 and 303 Fighter Squadrons), with 89 Polish pilots. Together with more than 50 Poles fighting in British squadrons, a total of 145 Polish pilots defended British skies. Polish pilots were among the most experienced in the battle, most of them having already fought in the 1939 September Campaign in Poland and the 1940 Battle of France. Additionally, prewar Poland had set a very high standard of pilot training. The 303 Squadron, named after the Polish-American hero, General Tadeusz Kościuszko, achieved the highest number of kills (126) of all fighter squadrons engaged in the Battle of Britain, even though it only joined the combat on August 30, 1940: these 5% of pilots were responsible for a phenomenal 12% of total victories in the Battle. The Polish Air Force also fought in 1943 in Tunisia (Polish Fighting Team, so called "Skalski's Circus") and in raids on Germany (1940-45). In the second half of 1941 and early 1942, Polish bomber squadrons were the sixth part of forces available to RAF Bomber Command (later they suffered heavy losses, with little replenishment possibilities). Polish aircrew losses serving with Bomber Command 1940-45 were 929 killed. Ultimately 8 Polish fighter squadrons were formed within the RAF and had claimed 629 Axis aircraft destroyed by May 1945. By war's end, there were 14,000 Polish airmen in 15 RAF squadrons and in the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). SimosSuperWhiteArmy Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - if we only rescued ourself who rescued you?

Aptitude Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - I admire your perseverance. I don't think you can mention Russia in WW2 without mentioning the Stalin, it was he who ordered the Soviet invasion of the 'independent' state of Poland long before Germany declared war on Russia. I can understand you are proud of your countries achievements but don't let that cloud your opinions when studying history. No matter how bad the Germans were the Russian leaders were just as evil, as evil to your own people as they were to their neighbours.

SimosSuperWhiteArmy Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - i understand they were evil but they still saved poland and probably the world as i think russia were the main force without them the world would fall under nazi control even the united states would fall without them, my opinion anyway.

kwadrat89 Says:

Nov 20, 2008 - I mean England STARTED a war seriously when Hitler begun Battle of Britain. And THEN you rescued yourself. Later ALL OF ALLIES fought with Nazis to the end.

Aptitude Says:

Nov 20, 2008 - You are entitled to your opinion but unfortunately neither the German or Russian leaders took much notice of Poland's views before they invaded and killed untold millions therefore I don't think the majority of Polish people would agree with your observations, what the Russians did was shorten WW2 and there is no way Germany could have invaded either the UK or US, it would have been suicide on their part.

FlyByFran Says:

Nov 22, 2008 - what's that film???

sebi737 Says:

CcampGuners Says:

Nov 24, 2008 - I think if every war zone had a McDonalds in it then there would be less fighting and more eating and then it will taste so good in your belly they will hug each other!

USArCOWARDS Says:

Nov 24, 2008 - SimosSuperWhiteArmy, USA was hardly in WW2. Britain beat the nazis on their own sending them intoan uncontrolable retreat in operation sea lion. The Nazis then attacked USSR who beat them into an uncontrolable retreat in operation barbarossa. Then we were just liberating. Britain libereated Africa and then USA joined to liberate italy and france. While USSr liberated and conquered about 10 countries. USA hardly played a roll in WW2.

martiansoldier Says:

Nov 26, 2008 - Operation sea lion was the german invasion of Britain, it never happened as Hitler could not control the skies. Brit still won it though, they continuously beat Italy in africa and greece forcing germany to commit reserves to other locations, it also delayed their invasion of Russia. It is likley germany would have suceeded in barborossa if not for brits. YET brits didnt win on their own, fighting alone should give them more credit though

USArCOWARDS Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - martiansoldier, Dude British empire did win WW2 on its own. The whole of the british empire was liberated by The British empire and no one else. That means we won. And we did it on our own. Opperation sealion was the only invasion attempt of Britain. It wasnt just controlling the sky Hitler had to do. He had to beat the most poweful navy in the world. The Mighty Royal navy. He did neither. So britain were the only country to beat the nazis on their own in WW2

herubinek7 Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - A Ja uważam, że wstyd się przyznać innym krajom, że są ci... i nie dali rady Hitlerowi. Kuźwa jakby nie polacy, to Hitler pochłonął by większość Europy.
